A medical disclaimer, in plain words

Reported, not prescribed. Everything on this page is journalism and general education — not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a recommendation to start or stop any medication. Your history, hormones, and pregnancy plans are yours alone; only a licensed clinician who knows them can advise you. Talk to one before you act on anything you read here.

MetabolicMoms is a magazine. We report on GLP-1 care for mothers — the cost, the coverage, the trade-offs — and we rank the telehealth providers who sell it. What we do not do is practice medicine. Nothing here is tailored to you, because we do not know your labs, your thyroid history, your medications, or your plans for your family. Only a clinician who does can turn general information into advice.

If you are pregnant, nursing, or may become pregnant

GLP-1 medicines are not appropriate during pregnancy or while trying to conceive, and guidance commonly advises stopping well ahead of a planned pregnancy — some have a long half-life, so this means planning a washout with your clinician, not stopping the week you decide to try. These drugs can also slow the gut and change how oral medications, including some oral contraceptives, are absorbed. If any of this is in your picture, raise it directly with your OB-GYN before you begin.

Compounded GLP-1 medications are not FDA-approved finished drug products, and the two are genuinely different products. Whatever you are weighing, seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional with any question about a condition or a treatment — and confirm current specifics with the provider directly.
